The government will consult with the federal states on Friday afternoon about the further course of action in the Corona pandemic. Actually, the next easing steps would be due at Christmas – especially the opening of ski lifts. But in view of the persistently high new infections and the many deaths, voices have recently increased calling for further interventions over the holidays. Whether that will happen, however, was unclear in the run-up to the video conference.
The decline in new infections has slowed noticeably recently: on average, 2,700 cases have been added in each of the past seven days, and 117 people infected with Covid-19 have died per day. Nevertheless, the government did not want to commit itself to new measures.
Speculated was in the run-up to the meeting, among other things, about an advance of the Christmas vacations, which were already extended with 11 January because of the Corona tests of teachers, as well as the closure of trade after the Christmas holidays. The latter had recently also SP leader Pamela Rendi-Wagner demanded. Clarity should bring the appearance of the government planned after the virtual meeting with the provincial governors late Friday afternoon.
